Tammy Dorchak was born in Lethbridge, Alberta and grew up in the small farming community of Enchant, Alberta. Tammy loved all sports and grew up playing volleyball, basketball, badminton, slo-pitch, and track and field. Tammy started playing volleyball in grade 6 and in grade 7, started playing club volleyball with the Lethbridge Volleyball Club. A teacher in Enchant showed Tammy a write-up in the Lethbridge Herald announcing tryouts for LVC and encouraged her to give it a try. It was the first year that they were having a bantam team (grade 7 & 8) so it was the perfect opportunity to extend the short school season! Tammy’s love for volleyball grew exponentially and she played club volleyball with the Lethbridge Volleyball Club for six years. All her club teams experienced great success- always ranking top 5 in the province. Tammy played high school volleyball in Vauxhall, Alberta under Scott Reiling and the team captured a 2A Provincial banner in 2002. Vauxhall is now known for being a big volleyball school with a great program and it was this provincial winning team that started it all! There were a few dedicated athletes (alongside Tammy) that decided how high the bar would be and what playing volleyball would look like at Vauxhall. After high school, Tammy was recruited to play for the Lethbridge College, and she enjoyed three seasons with the Kodiaks as a left side player and co-captain in her final season. After college, she finished her education at the University of Lethbridge and is now a physical education teacher at Chinook High School.
